Mana Pools is part of the Zambezi Valley down stream from Lake Kariba. We were there at the end of the dry season when water is a problem necessitating much of the wildlife to congregate by the Zambezi River. It is also very hot at that time of year. This location is a unique one from a wildlife perspective as well as others.
Without doubt, the specialty is the interaction that one has with wild elephants. It is so unique that one has to constantly remind oneself, that they are wild animals and need to be respected as such. One can get very close to these magnificent animals enabling one to really appreciate them for what they are.
We enjoyed sightings of a number of animals that are unusual and such sightings are unique.
The River is really the focus to a Safari of this nature not only because it is a magnet to the wildlife but it also provides very good Tiger Fish fishing [usually catch and release] very good Bream fishing as well as a variety of other types of fish. It provides sightings of the massive crocodiles that inhabit this river and also Hippo.
The camp we stayed in is unique and very friendly and the hostess is unparalleled in the exquisite cuisine that she manages to serve under the extreme conditions of climate and also re supply.
A very special experience and something one should do.
